NATURE AND WELLNESS IN A FASCINATING PLACE

Land on Lunga island, the largest of the Stagnone Lagoon,
walk among pine forests, riverbanks, ancient paths,
plunge into the salt pans to regenerate body and soul.

Lunga Island (also called Grande Island) is the largest of the Stagnone Lagoon.. It was initially formed by two rocky islets, which joined together and formed the Lunga Island, and so the lagoon itself. Among the experiences proposed the most fascinating and original is certainly the nature walk with wellness path in the salt pan of Lunga Island.

The island has ancient origins. Probably its appearance (which gave rise to the lagoon) was caused by the enlargement of the deposits of salt, very exploited by the Phoenicians, who contributed to unify some rocky islets each other. It has an area of about 120 hectares and has a length of about 10 km.

The salinity percentage touches 37 per thousand during winter and 42 per thousand during summer, which makes it a perfect habitat for some species of plants unique in the world, such as Calendula maritima.

Until about 50 years ago the island was densely inhabited and cultivated. Today the property has decided to make it accessible again to visitors and specially to lovers of trekking, bird watching and nature trails, with the possibility to enjoy of the salt pans and the unique and original wellness paths (involving immersion in salt tanks and direct contact with the salt flower).

The island is in fact crossed by a gravel road that runs through a forest of pine trees where you will be inebriated by its intense perfumes. On the opposite side there is a long beach of white sand, called Tahiti for the beauty and transparency of its sea (though hardly practicable because of Posidonia on the coast).
